Description
The purpose of this one-hour, pass/fail seminar is to introduce basic
concepts and provide a working understanding of Unix and Unix-like
operating systems.
The seminar is held in an electronic classroom and includes both lecture
and hands-on, interactive instruction. Primary topics include basic
concepts of operating systems, basic tenets of the philosophy of Unix,
differences between Unix and Linux, commands, shells, and scripting.
Secondary topics include selection and installation of Linux distributions,
software development, and applications. Assignments include readings and
both in-class and out-of-class exercises.
This semester, we'll be using Blackboard.
