    Overview
    Welcome to the 2010 Information Integration and Informatics (III-2010) PI Workshop website. The workshop will be held on April 22nd and 23rd in Rosslyn, VA. The objective of this workshop is to bring together PIs and co-PIs currently funded by the Information Integration and Informatics Program at the National Science Foundation along with selected industry and government invitees to discuss current research, as well as identify and elaborate on current challenges and future directions.

    PI Reports and Future Directions
    PIs were asked to sumbit reports. There were two parts to the reports. First, they were asked to briefly describe some emerging, future research directions or open problems that they have identified during your research -- these could be related to their III-funded research or, more generally, could be in any III-related research area. Second, they were asked for a brief summary of your recent accomplishments as part of their III-funded research. We have separated these into two pdf files: Future Directions and PI Project Reports.

    Objectives
    The growth in scale, diversity and complexity of data has increased the demand for understanding large amount of heterogeneous data. The Information Integration and Informatics (III) program focuses on the processes and technologies involved in creating, managing, visualizing, and understanding this heterogeneous data. Given the III focus, the workshop goals include:

    1. Analyzing and focusing on the research and development issues of problems that are fundamental in making progress toward understanding complex data;
    2. Specifying current and new areas where major breakthroughs appear possible;
    3. Identifying needed collaborations (e.g., inter-disciplinary, academic-industry); and
    4. Identifying research initiatives and facilities needed to meet current and future challenges.

    In addition, conference participants will share accomplishments, provide demonstrations and interact with each other. They will also discuss the objectives, contributions and challenges of major research activities funded by the Information Integration and Informatics program. Finally, the workshop will provide participants an opportunity to explore fruitful collaboration and synergism.

    Workshop Dates and Location
    III-2010 will begin on Thursday, April 22nd at 9:00 AM and conclude on Friday, April 23rd at 3:30 PM. Conference check-in/registration will be from 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 22nd. III-2010 will be held at the Waterview Conference Center in Rosslyn, Virginia. The Waterview Conference Center meeting space includes a plenary room, break out rooms, and a room for lunch. Participant accommodations will be at the Palomar Hotel next to the Waterview Conference Center. A reception and dinner will be provided on April 22nd.
